The referral came from the local authorities to address family relationship breakdowns. Upon receiving the referral, it was evident that the young person (YP) was struggling with mental health issues and relationship challenges. Building a positive rapport with the YP took time, as they had difficulty trusting and communicating. We worked both in the school setting and the community. Once the YP felt comfortable speaking with me, I gained a better understanding of the struggles and contributing factors affecting their social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH). I supported the YP in seeking clinical support and arranged mediation sessions to help repair broken relationships. In the meantime, I provided the YP with tools and strategies to support their well-being. We continue to meet weekly, and the YP has expressed that they look forward to these sessions.
