The Railway Carriage Youth Club – Ironville
Supporting Communities, in partnership with the Ironville and Codnor Park Community Association, is proud to oversee the Railway Carriage Youth Club.
Over the past year, we have been working closely with the club to support its operations, and we have now formed a formal partnership to protect and build upon its long history and legacy.
In recent years, the club has continued to thrive thanks to the dedication and commitment of its youth workers, Shane and Helen, whose hard work has ensured that the doors have remained open for local young people.
Looking ahead, we have exciting plans to further improve the space, enhance the range of activities on offer, and ensure that the club continues to serve the young people of Ironville for many years to come. Our shared goal is to provide a safe, welcoming, and inspiring environment where young people can learn, grow, and belong.
The Railway Carriage
Youth Club
Ironville
The Railway Carriage Youth Club has been at the heart of Ironville since it opened in the late 1990s, managed by the Ironville and Codnor Park Community Association. It has grown into a vibrant hub where young people feel safe, supported, and inspired.
What makes this youth club truly special is its setting, a fully adapted and heated railway carriage. Over the past 20+ years, the carriage has been lovingly maintained and transformed into a welcoming space designed with young people in mind. Inside, there is a kitchen and refreshment area, storage, toilet facilities, gaming zone, music zone and specially chosen comfortable furniture. We offer a variety of activities, including a pool table, gaming equipment, music and creative spaces for art, crafts, and group projects.
Outside, the club benefits from a floodlit, all-weather hard-surface play area marked for both netball and five-a-side football. This space allows for active, energetic play and team sports, encouraging healthier lifestyles and teamwork, whatever the season.
Our dedicated team of youth practitioners ensure that the club is far more than just a place to “hang out.” It is a safe, positive environment where young people can develop new skills, build friendships, and take part in activities that boost their confidence and aspirations. The club creates a strong sense of belonging, reducing isolation and giving young people opportunities to engage in their community in a meaningful way.
