The initial referral highlighted conflicts within a particular housing estate, where residents frequently complained to their housing provider and police call-outs were high in the estate. In response, staff from Supporting Communities engaged with residents and their children to mediate the conflict and reduce tension in the area. We organised weekly street-based game sessions for young people, which helped resolve conflicts and break down barriers. As a result, parents and children developed friendships, significantly reducing complaints and police call-outs. This initiative created a sense of community, allowing families to share their stories and concerns, and reassuring them that others were experiencing similar domestic and societal pressures. The young people found these sessions valuable, enjoying the opportunity to try new activities and make friends. Many expressed a desire for these sessions to continue regularly, with a focus on play and physical activity throughout the year. The success of this initiative was even featured on BBC News, highlighting the positive relationships and community cohesion that emerged from these sessions.
